TANJUNG TUALANG, 10 September 2011:

IRIS Corporation Berhad (IRIS) hosts a Hari Raya cum Hari Malaysia Open House to introduce its Sustainable Agro Community Project named Rimbunan Kaseh to over 1000 residents of Tanjung Tualang, a small town in the major tin-mining Kinta district of Perak. Gracing the event was YB Dato’ Lee Chee Leong, Deputy Home Minister who is also Kampar Member of Parliament and various heads of local villages.

The event saw IRIS contribute RM5000 organising committee chairman Chang Gwo Chyang towards the upcoming 1Malaysia Carnival. Also benefiting from the generosity of Pusat Khidmat Ahli Parlimen Kampar’s RM7,500 contribution were some of the area’s less fortunate residents.

The project is slated to be the country’s single largest sustainable greenhouse farm. With 100 acres marginal land leased from Perbadanan Pembangunan Pertanian Negeri Perak (PPPNP), this first-of-its-kind project optimizes innovative technology and renewable resources.

IRIS has created a modern, eco-friendly farm with exceptionally pleasant environments for staff to work, live and play. Farm hands are called agro-specialists. Rimbunan Kaseh is currently generating employment opportunities and raising the economic status of various groups - with priority given to former athletes, single mothers, indigenous peoples and the physically challenged residing in the area. This agro farm aims to bring about rural development and potential eco-agro tourism benefits to Tanjung Tualang.

When fully operational, Rimbunan Kaseh will provide jobs for 240 locals and yield high value, premium crops such as Golden Melon, Rock Melon, Cherry Tomato, Japanese Cucumber, Eggplant, Okra, Organic Rice, etc. Also, the farm will eventually be equipped with modern day comforts such as air conditioning, rest lounges, a Visitors’ Centre, Restaurant/Cafe, computer centre and provide various recreational amenities.

“IRIS aims to make a difference wherever and whenever possible. We hope that this initiative not only elevates the dignity and livelihoods of farm workers but also contributes positively towards creating a national agriculture sector that is dynamic, competitive and a contributor to the Malaysian economy,” commented Dato’ Mohamad Suparadi Bin Md. Noor, Executive Director Business Development of IRIS Corporation Berhad.
